U.S. Census
Overseas Enumeration Test
February - July 2004
Stand Up and Be Counted!
Or, sit down... frankly, whatever you find to be more comfortable
because
taking part in the U.S. Census Overseas Enumeration Test is just
that easy!
Every 10 years, for more than 200 years, people across the United
States have been
participating in the U.S. Census. The most recent census, in 2000,
was the most
complete and accurate of the modern era, with more than 105 million
households
participating.
At the request of Congress, the U. S. Census Bureau is exploring
the feasibility of including all U.S. citizens living abroad in
the next census, in 2010. The first step will
be to conduct a "test census," which will gauge the feasibility
of conducting an
overseas enumeration. This test will take place in France, Kuwait
and Mexico in
Spring 2004.

All U.S. citizens living in these three countries, regardless of
shared citizenship,
are eligible for the test census and should participate. Americans
vacationing or on
short business trips are not eligible, and should not participate.
You can help your country determine if it is possible to include
all U.S. citizens living abroad in the 2010 Census.
Filling out a Census questionnaire only takes a few minutes. You
can obtain a hard-copy (old-fashioned paper) census form from the
US Consulate in Merida or either of its Consular Agencies in Cancun
or Cozumel. Just fill it out and mail it in (postage is free!).
Better yet, you can even fill out the form online at www.census.gov/overseas04.
Deadline for submission of the paper and electronic forms is July
31, 2004.
CONFIDENTIAL. The information submitted to the Census Bureau will
be used for statistical purposes only. The Census Bureau is prohibited
by law from releasing
information that will identify you or your household to any other
organization or government entity, foreign or domestic.
