Healthcare In Merida

Merida, the capital the state, has always been a center for medical services in the Yucatan. The University of Yucatan (UADY) has had for generations one of the best medical schools in Mexico.

Because of the quality of the hospitals and the many specialists of all kinds, patients from all over the southeast of Mexico - Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco, Chiapas, Veracruz and even Belice, come to Merida for medical attention.

Residents will find that health services and care, including checkups, dental,  plastic surgery, rehabilitation, and intensive care, besides being first class, cost a fraction of what they would cost in the US. Many of the doctors speak English as they have done post graduate work abroad.

For dental care we highly recommend Dr. Javier Camara, who for years has been attending the needs of residents and ex-pats. Also for dental services you can visit Dr. Ivan Gámez. If you are considering cosmetic surgery, we suggest you consult with Dr. Fernando Nuñez. All of these three doctors have studied in the US and speak perfect English.

The best hospitals in Merida include the Clinica Merida (tel 925-4100), The Centro Medico de las Americas (CMA) tel 937-3100 and the new Star Medical Center, 930-2880. In Progreso you will find  the Centro Medico Americano, 935-0769. In Cancun, there are the Hospiten tel  881-3700 and the Ameri Med. 881-3400

For health insurance, rates in Mexico are very accessible. You can be protected and use the best hospitals and doctors at reasonable costs. The age limit  to start is 65 years old. One of the insurance companies used by Yucatan residents is Allianz because of their personal attention and worldwide coverage. You can receive more information about their plans and premiums, call 999-132-1354
