Life Long Learning

A new option for Merida’s local & international residents

Have you been to Chichen Itza, Uxmal, the Convent Route and done everything else there is to do in Merida and surrounding areas? Have you finishing remodeling your colonial home in El Centro? Have you read almost every book at the Merida English Library? Or, are you a Yucatecan who speaks English and wants to use it? Are you retired or soon to be? Do you want to do something different? Um…. What are your choices?

Dah-dah-de-dah! There is a new option in Merida! Life Long Learning, a program, offering fun, interesting, useful, hands-on courses and travel excursions, all in English, will start-up in January 2008. Class size is 10 – 15, which is small enough for personal attention yet large enough to encourage group dynamics.

Jorge and Joanna Rosado, the owners/directors of Tecnologia Turistica Total Tourism & Languages College (TTT), are offering the pilot program menu in three sessions:

SESSION I: Jan 7– Feb 1

Spanish II

SESSION II: Feb 11- Mar 7

SESSION III: Mar 10 – 21

Sessions I and II will offer two 2.5 hour classes twice a week for four weeks. Session III will offer four 2.5 hour classes a week for two weeks – a bit more intensive. There will be no tests or exams. The courses are non-credit but participants will receive a certificate upon completion. Each course is 20 hours long and the cost is $150 USD (that breaks down to 75 pesos per hour.)

Each session also features a week long cultural travel opportunity:
Mexico City (Dec. 31 – Jan. 6),
Tabasco, Chiapas & Campeche (Mar. 8 – 15)
Puebla & Oaxaca (Mar. 31 – April 7.)

You can elect to take just one or as many course and travel options as you like.

A little background: Joanna came up with the idea to develop the Life Long Learning program after years of hearing from members of the international community who had come to Merida, settled in and then wanted something more - to keep active and learn something new.

People told her they really enjoy the colonial ambiance, the tall ceilings, courtyard patios, gurgling fountains, the air-conditioned classrooms, and the comfortable auditorium at her college. TTT is located in Merida’s downtown Centro, so it is the perfect place to hold classes for retired or about to be retired adults.

The courses that require a larger space will be held at the Villa Serena Wellness Center in the easily accessible Garcia Gineres neighborhood (Yoga, Tai-chi, Drawing & Illustration, Handcrafts and Salsa & Folkloric Dance.)

To get started, check out the webpage: www.lifelonglearningyucatan.com Fill in the reservation form and make your deposit. To reserve your space, you can deposit in cash at TTT or online through Pay Pal. The balance can then be paid in cash at the college 21 days prior to your class start-up or 45 days before your trip’s departure.
