Restaurant of the Month
Rey Pakal
An open air restaurant under a huge thatched roof, delicious Yucatecan cuisine along with prime cuts of beef, good Yucatecan botanas, ice cold beers and quick service are the major ingredients you will find at the Rey Pakal restaurant. Located just two minutes north of the Periferico on the road to Motul, it is very easy to reach. Check our map.
The menu has excellent pictures in color of each dish, which helps a lot if these dishes are new to you. If you do know each and every dish, these pictures will make you want to order one of everything! The traditionally dressed wait staff, the live - not loud and intrusive - Yucatecan music and lots of strategically located ceiling fans will make your stay comfortable and pleasant.
Rey Pakal is the perfect place to take the family, friends and guests for traditional Yucatecan food in a country setting. As can be imagined, this restaurant is very popular on weekends when Yucatecan families go out for lunch.
Other key ingredients that make Rey Pakal the perfect place are the great children’s play area, the plant nursery, seven thatched roof huts that house shops selling art, hammocks, jewelry, D’Aristi products (chilies, liquors, honey, etc.), typical clothing, wood, stone and clay carvings, and CD’s of typical music. All the plants you see are for sale – a very interesting marketing method.

The specialties of the house are the hand made tortillas and the pib (pit) for baked-in-the-ground dishes that include relleno negro, lomitos and longaniza de Valladolid, cochinita pibil, queso relleno, poc-chuc, panuchos, salbutes, papadzules, brazo de reina, guacamole, nachos and wings. The crema de chaya, traditional turkey broth, joroches and sopa de lima are all served steamy hot and delicious. The Rey Pakal and Caesar salads are refreshing and healthy.
If a prime cut of beef is your fancy, they offer New York, T-bone, and arracheras. Poultry dishes include cordon blue, grilled and fajitas.
The desserts are traditionally Yucatecan – flan, papaya with Edam cheese, caballero pobre and mayatrol fruit preserves in syrup.
There is also a children’s menu. Prices are moderate and there is ample parking. Open for lunch.
