RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH

Las Arboledas

What a nice change, the opportunity to eat outdoors, under the stars and the huge Poinciana trees of the Holiday Inn in a sidewalk café setting. Open exclusively for dinner, the delicious grilled buffet awaits you with fresh cuts of meat that are grilled on the spot in either of the buffet menus or a la carte. The chicken breast fillets with chimichurri sauce, arracheras, pork chops au natural or marinated and various types of sausages are all temping, so try a bit of each. All are tasty and the chef barbeques them just right.

The salad, soup, vegetable and Yucatecan cuisine stations have a good selection of vegetables, soups and side dishes. These change daily, so if you are in town for several days, you won’t get bored. And if you visit the restaurant just once, you will be pleasantly surprised.

The night time buffet at Las Arboledas is different and very pleasant. With two buffet choices on the menu – the Buffet ($140 pesos) with grilled meats, a choice of local dishes, salad bar, coffee and dessert and the Buffet Special ($159 pesos) which includes grilled cuts such at rib-eye, T-bone, top sirloin and New Yorks you can also order a la carte, with a choice of tacos, grilled meats and traditional Yucatecan dishes.

Las Arboledas is conveniently located by four of Merida’s largest hotels in the north, less than a block off the Paseo Montejo. There is live music starting at 9 pm each night.

Do consider a meal here after doing the Turibus hop on, hop off city tour, (they stop right in front of the restaurant), or upon returning from an afternoon of shopping or a day at the pyramids.
