Golf Club of Yucatan

Nestled in the jungle of the Yucatan on what was once the grounds of Dzibilchaltun, is the Golf Club of Yucatan.

Open seven days a week with 18 holes and a par 72, Club de Golf de Yucatan is located just off the Merida-Progreso highway. If you are visiting for a just a day or are one of the lucky snowbirds that live along the coast in Progreso, Chicxulub, Chelem or Telchac Puerto and are going to be here for a few months, the club is open to you. With a monthly membership (valid up to three months), you can use all the facilities that include equipment rental, carts, caddies plus tennis, a pool, gym, steam baths and a restaurant bar that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will also find a putting green, a driving range and the Pro-shop. The pro, Mr. Roberto, is there to help you.

The sport of golf was brought to the Yucatan 35 years ago (1969) when the visionary architect Felix Mier y Teran (father of our publisher) and Mr.Vicente Erosa got together, bought the land, designed the course and then built some homes that were the beginning of the development that is built between the greens and fairways. These two gents advertised in American golf magazines with the idea of bringing retired Americans to the Yucatan. A cute colonial home with a central court yard along the main avenue on a lot that measured 30 meters by 100meters went for $33,000 dollars back then.

Bought up by the retired Americans, the golf club and residential area, named Club de Golf La Ceiba, became a reality.

In 1988 Mr. Trino Molina bought the club, injected some serious capital and has made the club what it is today – an important place in Yucatan for families and golfers alike.

If you are speaking English, speak slowly!
