Playa Maya

Own or rent a piece of paradise in the Celestun Biosphere!

Located in the Biosphere of Celestun, the area known for its flamingo colony, is Playa Maya, a privately owned residential beachfront resort that has two projects going on. The first project is the residential part that is made up of private homes that have been built in the past year. Owned mostly by Americans and Canadians, these owners use their homes approximately two months a year. For the other ten months, they are available for rent, which is the second project. At Playa Maya, you can own a home or rent a home like a hotel room.

Playa Maya is located on 1.9 kilometers (3 plus miles) of incredible, virgin beach and is divided into three sections. The first section, made up of 28 houses, has been completed. These beachfront homes range in size from one-bedroom attached houses to one-bedroom non-attached homes, to two story three-bedroom homes. All are beachfront and include a full kitchen, living room and dining room areas with all the furnishings, private patio areas and daily maid service. The woodwork of the closets and furniture is to die for!

Being located in the Biosphere means there are very special rules for protecting the environment. All this protection makes Playa Maya a very special place and a bird watchers paradise. There are three sounds that are predominant at Playa Maya – the sounds of the birds chirping, the waves on the beach and the breezes in the palm trees. Rules also include low density building. The homes are maximum two stories meaning no high-rise condominiums.

Amenities on the property include a huge pool, a thatched roof restaurant, a game room and mini library and a pier for fishing. The management can also arrange day trips to see the flamingos and night trips into the mangrove to see the alligators. They will pick you up at the airport or in Merida according to your needs.

With summertime just around the corner, now is the time to reserve a villa. Rental rates start at $100 US per day, $600 per week and $2,000 per month for a one-bedroom attached house that can house up to four people. A two-bedroom home goes for $140 per day, $840 per week and $2,800 per month with room for up to six people.

Prices for ownership start at $87,500 US with down payments starting at $17,500 with 50% of the balance being paid when construction starts and the balance when the construction is finished.
