Pet Adoption of the Week

Tootsie

Every week we post a photo and story about a dog available for adoption from Evolución Animal, a shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected dogs. The sanctuary is running at full capacity and no dogs are being accepted at the present time; however be sure to scroll through the Related Gallery to see photos of all the pets featured in this article.

THE DOGS OF EVOLUCION NEED YOU …

Sanctuary Evolución is a volunteer-run organization working to protect animals from abuse and neglect. While Evolución exists as a dog sanctuary, the organization focuses on educating the public about responsible pet ownership, provides no charge spay/neuter clinics to low income families, and conducts anti-violence and environmental awareness campaigns.

Sanctuary Evolución houses more than 190+ abused or abandoned dogs waiting for their forever homes. While at the sanctuary these dogs have a safe haven, including basic medical and preventative care, and food to ensure they don't go to sleep hungry.  Although adoption rates are improving, for every dog that finds a loving home, there are two or more left outside the shelter gates or rescued from the streets.

With the proceeds from fundraisers, we have been able to make much needed improvements to the facility, spay and neuter most of the dogs and ensure that every dog receives basic medical care. However, food is our biggest expense and even with a discount from our supplier, the sanctuary needs 5,800 pesos for food each and every week.  If you care about animals, we are asking you to lend your support and become a monthly food donor.

YOU CAN HELP… 150 pesos feeds a shelter dog for a month / 300 pesos feeds 2 dogs / 900 pesos feeds 6 dogs.  Go to http://www.evolucionanimal.org/ and donate online,  or, if you live in Merida and would like to make a cash donation, please email patintheyucatan@gmail.com.

Evolucion is a non-profit organization, registered with Hacienda - RFC #EKU110127FRA.

Cleo and Bess, April 8, 2013:
PRECIOUS PUPPIES!  Cleo and Bess are just two of the many healthy pups at the shelter.  (The brown pup in the video found his forever home a few weeks ago!) The pups are cuddly, playful little darlings who deserve very much to be wanted and loved by their new families. Unwanted, abandoned pups are why we are so passionate about spay and neutering so these pups will be sterilized to prevent history repeating itself.  For more details on all our cute and oh-so cuddly pups, please call 9999 70 50 36 today. Evolucion’s population is way over capacity so we urgently need to find homes for Cleo and Bess and all their rescued friends at the shelter.

Puppies, Jan. 21, 2013:
These pups love being the centre of attention and love meeting new people.  They are completely fearless and get along with the big dogs in the main enclosure.  They are doing well at the shelter but would be so much happier with a loving family to call their own.  All they want out of life is a good snuggle, a treat and a nap outside in the sunshine.  The pups are healthy, have had their shots and will be sterilized shortly.  Come and check out these awesomely cute puppies as they are just too cuddly to pass up.  Pick up the phone and call 9991 93 06 28 today!   Your support extends the promise of a second chance and a lifetime of love and happiness for all the abandoned and rescued puppies and dogs at Evolucion.

Phoebo, Nov. 12, 2012:
My name is Phoebo and my road to adoption has been “ruff”.  I was rescued after being hit by a car but I’m in great shape now.  I've been at Evolucion for a dog’s age and while I know they love me (they tell me so every day) I really want to find a family to call my own.  I’m good on the lead and like to go for walks but I will be just as happy playing in your garden.  I'm a friendly boy and I believe I'm handsome -- they tell me that too!  I’ve been neutered and am up to date on my shots!   I'm just looking for a loving home of my own so please call 9991 93 06 28. Your support extends the promise of a second chance and a lifetime of love and happiness for Phoebo and all the abandoned and rescued dogs at Evolucion.

Dolca and Jolly, Oct. 15, 2012:
We are celebrating a milestone!  This week we present our 100th Pet Adoption of the Week video!  Many thanks to InTheYucatan.com and Yucatan Today for their support and to all the families who have opened their hearts and homes to a dog or cat from a shelter. We selected Jolly and Dolca, brother and sister, for our 100th video because they are victims of abuse and neglect having been rescued from their “family” at different times. Evolucion works with others to raise awareness of responsible pet ownership and asks that you make a legal complaint when you witness animal abuse. www.evolucionyucatan.com has details on how to file a complaint (denuncia). Jolly and Dolca are now in good health, are up to date on their shots and have been sterilized.  Jolly is a confident and happy boy and little Dolca is gaining confidence in new situations.  Are you able to offer Jolly and/or Dolca a loving home?  For more information on any of the dogs featured in the gallery, please call 9991 93 06 28. Your support extends the promise of a second chance and a lifetime of love and happiness for Jolly and Dolca and all the abandoned and rescued dogs at the shelter.

Orion and Chalo, June 4, 2012
Orion & Chalo are purebred dogs but their stories are similar to many of the malix pek (mixed breed) dogs at the shelter – their “owners” just didn’t care about them.  They were never considered as part of the family.  We think Orion was put out on the streets because of his age and Chalo was going to be shot because he was chasing chickens.   Both dogs would make a wonderful family pet as they are kind and good natured. They are healthy, neutered and have had all their shots.  If you can give Orion a home in his golden years or provide young Chalo with a loving home he can call his own, please pick up the phone and call Evolucion today - 9991 93 06 28. JUNE 11 UPDATE: CHALO HAS BEEN ADOPTED, BUT ORION IS STILL AVAILABLE.

Mona, April 9, 2012:
Mona recently returned to Evolucion through no fault of her own.   She is a gentle and sweet natured lady who would make the ideal pet for a family with young children.   Mona enjoys her walks with the volunteers and is very well behaved on the leash.   She is about 2½ years old and has been spayed and vaccinated.  Mona is finding life back at the shelter stressful so we need to find her a loving home.  If you can give this special dog another chance, please call 9991-93-06-28.

Video of Mona below from our friends at intheyucatan.com:

Debbie and Lola, April 2, 2012:
Debbie and Lola are 3 year old sisters who have been at Evolucion since they were puppies.  They are shy ladies but affectionate once they get to know you.  Over the past few months volunteers have been spending time with both girls and their confidence has grown and they now enjoy walking out with the other dogs.  They have been spayed and vaccinated.  Debbie and Lola really deserve the chance of a new start in a loving home of their own – preferably together but they can go separately. The only way to tell them apart is to look for Lola's brown ear or Debbie's spotted ears!! Anyone interested in adopting Debbie and/or Lola would need to visit the shelter a few times to get to know them.  For more information on these elegant dogs, please call 9991-93-06-28.

Stephie, Nov. 15, 2010:
Hola mis amigos! I am Stephie!  I am big and strong and, while I may look intimidating, I am actually very sweet and shy.  I have been at Sanctuary Evolución for 3 years…actually, I was born here.  You see, my mother was brought to the Sanctuary when she was pregnant and very skinny and rescued off the streets.  She gave birth to me and my 3 siblings, but they have since been adopted.  I am here still waiting for my forever home.  I am spayed and have had all my shots. If you are interested in me, or any of the dogs at Sanctuary Evolución, please contact Jill Benson at 9991-43-47-11 or email at info@evolucionyucatan.com

Snoopy, Nov. 1, 2010:
Hola mis amigos! Today’s Pet of the Week is a very special one!  Meet Snoopy!  Snoopy has been with Silvia Cortes at Sanctuary Evolución longer than any other dog – 9 years.  He was actually born at Silvia’s home.  You see, Snoopy’s mother was the seventh dog Silvia Cortes had picked up at of the streets when she first began to rescue dogs some 9 years ago.  Snoopy’s mother was pregnant and in terrible condition.  She was extremely thin, but managed to give birth to healthy puppies.  All were adopted with the exception of Snoopy.  Snoopy has made his home with Silvia at Evolución and this is the only home he has ever known.  However, a loving family could provide him with more attention as he so richly deserves. If you are interested in Snoopy, or any of the dogs at Sanctuary Evolución, please contact Jill Benson at 9991-43-47-11 or email at info@evolucionyucatan.com

For more information, contact Silvia at 9991-93-06-28 or Jill at 9991-43-47-11, or email Jill at snjbenson@yahoo.com
