This project that began 25 years ago has become the most-awaited cultural activity of Yucatán by the local, national, and international artistic community, as well as visitors and Yucatecans alike. The dates of the festival this year are October 9 to November 9.

At 25 years since its inception, the “Otoño Cultural” has achieved positioning as a platform for excellence in artistic expression. This is a festival that offers performances, courses, and free workshops, while recovering and strengthening our traditions when sharing forums, with the artistic wealth of other regions and avant-garde activities, offering as its headquarters the beautiful city of Mérida and the 105 municipalities of the interior of the state.

The “Otoño Cultural” is the most important activity that the state government, via the Cultural Institute, develops with such impact for the positioning of our land that is so rich in culture and traditions.

For 31 days, more than 150,000 people will participate in more than 400 cultural activities that will take place during this Silver Anniversary of the event. Yucatán is a state that blends history and culture, unifying the old and the new—true syncretism—with respect to traditions, without losing our essence.

The XXV Edition of the “Otoño Cultural” includes a wide variety of artistic disciplines: music, dance, theater, performances for children, visual arts, literature, film, and traditional events, depen-ding on the fundamental participation of Yucatecan artists who alternate with prominent artists from other countries, and, of course, Mexico.

The festival also offers conferences, workshops, and literary encounters, which foster education and artistic formation among creators, teachers, and students, who share experiences with the experts who participate as instructors.

The Cultural Institute of Yucatán is fulfilling its commitment to decentralize cultural services into the whole state. For that reason, the festival will contain more than ten headquarters, among which are the Peón Contreras, Mérida, Daniel Ayala, and Felipe Carrillo Puerto Theaters, as well as cultural centers, parks, neighborhoods, and other alternative spaces in the 106 municipalities of the state.

The government of the state and the Cultural Institute of Yucatán appreciate the support received from Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA), Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA), Ayuntamiento de Mérida, Embassies of Argentina, Spain, Germany and Chile, Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, Patronato para la Orquesta Sinfónica de Yucatán, and Museo de la Canción Yucateca, who have believed in this cultural project which offers such huge benefits for the community.

For more information about the activities of the XXV “Otoño Cultural”, you can visit the Cultural Institute of Yucatán (ICY), located at calle 18 No. 204 x 23 y 25 of colonia García Ginerés, or telephone 942 3800.
