participated in the recent exhibition "The myth of Two Volcanoes" organized by Mexico City ’s Palacio de Bellas Artes and will show his work at the Art of the Century Gallery in New York next November. Pigeau’s exhibition at Mérida’s Centro de Artes Visuales includes sculpture, drawings, stenopeic photographs and installations made from his different residences in Mexico. Pigeau has been invited twice by the Yucatán’s Culture Institute as a guest professor and artist (2004 and 2005), participating in the Visual Arts training program and the B. A. at the School of Art (ESAY). He has developed a significant body of camera oscura (stenopeic) photographs on themes such as the ceiba (sacred Mayan tree) and the wind, as well as sculptural projects originated from the study of urban space, vegetation and landscape of Yucatan . Pigeau searches the elements – wind, soil, water and fire – and materializes them through different mediums using materials such as steel, bronze, aluminum, ceramic, plaster and raw clay.
The exhibition "Travesias at the Centro de Artes Visuales" will allow us to discover a new interpretation of Yucatan’s natural surroundings and heritage through the aesthetic insights of Jean-Charles Pigeau.
